Sammy R. - I own the Cascade 1000 and 1200 and absolutely love both of them. They are much better than any of the Fluval's or Eheims that I have had. Mine are so quiet that you have to touch them to make sure they are actually running. This filter is highly recommended.

Jay K. - I've had the Cascade 1000 for bout 4 months on my 280 L Oscar tank. Two Hang-On-Back filters are also working in the tank. The filter has worked well and no problems in my experience. Oscars are messy, and for 280 L my tank is a little-overstocked. I do regular changes and vacuuming, have accessed this filter a few times to check it out and clean gunk if any. I must say all has been well, I was a little surprised at some posts before, because I honestly thought it was rather quiet. I sit right next to it all the time. OK just my experience. I work at trying to keep a good tank, this filter hasn't hurt that at all so far.

Mike Adams - I have two Cascades, I'm not sure of the size. I forgot.  I have one for my community tank 170 L, filled with goldfish and a few others. As you know, goldfish are quite messy and have a high ammonia production. All my other fish are fine and doing very well. I can't believe how long my filter keeps my tank clean. I haven't cleaned it in 2 months. My other tank is my aggressive 280 L. It keeps the tank clean for at least a month. The food I feed them often dyes the water orange.  But I can say this filter is the best I've had in years.

Ed - I have several of the Cascades. I run two of the 700 models on a 75 gallon tank for cichlids. I also run a 700, as well as a 1000 on a 125 gallon community tank. I simply love them. Easy to set up, easy to clean and maintain, easy to get parts for. Unlike the fluval I had to replace.

J. Rizzo - I own a Cascade 700 series and I'm very satisfied with it. My water PH and chemical makeup always test correct. The water gets very clean within hours and is very clear. My water gets so clear that sometimes it seems that water is not in it. This has been attributed to the overall beauty and luster of my panted 29 Gallon. I have recommended a friend to pickup one up who has a 55 gallon tank. I actually recommended that he get a Cascade 1000. Great product, simple and easy to use. Build your own carbon packs and zeolite packs if you decide to.

G. Conaway - I purchased a Marineland. It is a real pain to even open the thing up as the O-ring falls off. The water polishing filters do not work. The carbon canister is poorly designed and easily falls apart. I think I will go back to the TetraTec hang on filter I had before, as this canister is not an upgrade.

TJ Mueller - Marineland C-series filter was relatively easy to assemble. Instructions were pretty clear. It runs quielty and smoothly. Starts easier than a Fluval. So far it is keeping my water very clear. An excellent filter especially considering its low cost. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

petcoreview - Marineland Multi-Stage C-Series Canister Filter forces water to pass through the filter media trays and not around them. With virtually no bypass and a three stage filtration process, only sparkling-clean water can recirculate into your tank—regardless of size or type of aquarium. The key to this process is our special internal design and three stage approach that passes the water through a series of specialized filter media. It's a design that delivers the best available technology in mechanical, chemical and biological filtration… and it's a design that is unmatched for capturing particulates.

Richard Gould - Marienland canister is by far the best canister filter ever. We have a HOT magnum and a emperor 400 on the 55 gallon that has an oscar and it is crystal clear. We have the micron filter on for a week and then have carbon cartridge on the rest of the month. We have a magnum 350 with bio-wheel pro 60, fluval 403, emperor 400 on the 125 gallon and it is crystal clear all the time with the two oscars and 2 parrot cichlids.

Barry Feldman - I have two H.O.T Magnums, one pro and one basic unit. I have not been able to prevent air leaks in either one although the pro system loses its water slower; over a few days. I have replaced every spare part except the impeller and used both Magnum silicone and Vaseline on all gaskets. It is pain in the you know what. I have a Magnum 350 Pro which is a wonderful filter and gives me no trouble. I like Marineland products a lot, except for the H.O.T.'s.

Ian - I was looking for a canister filter for my 100 L planted tank, and wanted to get an Eheim. The woman at the LFS I go to, who is very knowledgeable, said that the Marineland filters are newer technology for a cheaper price than Eheim. I decided to take a gamble and I'm very pleased. The filter media is interchangeable and there is ample bio-filtration, with both numerous bio-balls and open cell foam for harboring bacteria. The filter runs really quietly and has a higher turnover rate than comparative canister filter for the same size tank. The base model overturns 160 GPH and has two carbon packets, so that one saves as much bacteria as possible during cleaning. Overall I'm very pleased with my purchase. The only complaint I have is the price - from what I've seen they are more than Eheim, a tried and true brand. Give this one a try, and see what you think.

Claire Yanta - I have been using a Magnum 350 on my 380 liter tank for about 2 years. It is a very good water polishing filter and is so much easier to use than a diatom filter. I run it continuously with the micron filter cartridge to get rid of any parasites. I found that I have to change the micron cartridge every four or five days to maintain a strong enough flow or else my bio wheel attachment does not function. I found in the past that the media container with the floss and bio wheels was not adequate enough to filter my tank as I had a lot of casualties. I have added a Fluval 404 filter to the tank and the difference is like night and day! I would recommend the 350 as an adjunctive filter in a larger tank, but never as the main filtration system. The Magnum 350 is very handy to clean the gravel it does an excellent job with the gravel attachment. The Magnum 350 canister itself is made of brittle plastic as well as the valves and are fragile and easily cracked. I have had some problems with the canister lid seal leaking which could have been a serious flood! On investigation it is not the gasket that has worn but the metal clips that snap hold the lid on that need to be bent back in shape to maintain a tight enough fit.

Theus A. - I've had my Eheim 2231 for about 6 months and it was a great purchase indeed. You can hear a slight buzz when running, but barely noticeable. The self-prime feature and the hefty little trays are nice commodities and useful too. The circulation rate is OK, but I really don't complain about it too much. It really doesn't pump out a lot, but it absolutely gets the job done.

visitor - I have a Eheim 2233 and it works very well. Very easy to clean and maintain. One thing is that it does make a little hum, but it's in my living room so I don't really notice that much. Very easy to set up.

Karma - recently installed an Eheim Ecco 2236 (rated for aquariums up to 80 gallons) on a 55 gallon aquarium that's situated in the Media Center of the school where I work. I replaced a Whisper Power Filter that was failing. The Ecco cleared the water within days, and it's really silent, too. It's been a month now, and it's running well. I've noticed an improvement with my green algae problem. After 2 weeks, I removed the carbon filter pad, and now according to the directions, I shouldn't have to crack it open for 3-6 months, depending on the water flow. So far, I'm really pleased. I had to clean the filter pads in the Whisper at least once a week just to get more than a week out of the pads. Even after cleaning the entire filter, I still had bypass problems. After the initial setup, which I had a few problems with because I followed the instructions a little too religiously, I've not had to mess with the filter at all. I've been getting compliments on how nice the aquarium is looking. The Ecco certainly cost more than buying another Whisper, but the time I'm saving, the water quality, and the fact I don't have to buy tons of filter pads, certainly made this a great decision so far. The water flow isn't too much for the fish, which I was initially worried about because I went with the bigger model.

CichlidFan - When the power filter that came with my aquarium failed last week, I bought the Eheim Ecco. I don't know how I managed without it. Setup was so easy and foolproof. Took no time at all to assemble the components together and fill the baskets with substrate. The self-priming feature made filling the canister easy too. Now there's excellent water circulation and filtration in my aquarium. And the best part? It's SO quiet! Now that's money well spent.

Albugue - I have had this Eheim canister filter running for a month and have cleaned out the medium 2 times. My water is still cloudy and not clear. I have a 55 gallon tank and I purchased and oversize canister filter. I may have to buy a Marineland canister filter to get the water clear. Very unhappy with the purchase."

ek778 - The Eheim Ecco Canister filter is an OUTSTANDING product. I own a Red Earred slider turtle, which is a very dirty pet. We had previously been using a typical fish filter and were doing a full water change every week, and filter pad changes twice a week.

Enter the Eheim Ecco. We were sick of doing all that cleaning all the time, so I bought the Eheim Ecco. WOW. What a difference it has made in my life. It is incredibly easy to setup, clean, and maintain. It is virtually silent. I have it return underwater, so no more noise of it constantly splashing water.

GoldfishGirl. -  I own two of the JBJ Reaction filters. I use one of them to maintain a 150 gal tank, and the other on a 180 gal tank - I use them along with a Magnum 350 filter, and this set up works beautifully. They are so easy to use, can be set up in minutes, I love them. They keep my water crystal clear, and you can't beat the price for a canister with UV. I wish the quartz sleeve screwed out (instead of being glued in); that would be my only recommendation for improvement

Terrence Clark - I've been using the JBJ Reaction canister and find it to be a pretty good filter.  the price was good, especially since it came with a built-in UV sterilizer bulb.

Rod Siemens - Great price for the JBJ Reaction filter.  It saved me money since I did not have to buy a UV sterilizer.  I'll let you know about the performance!

Judy Allred - I agree overall with the comments on the Fluvals. I have two 404's and one 304. The output spigot on one of the 404's in my discus tank continually falls off. I tried a bit of thin electrical tape, but it fell off. My next fix will be to rough up the outside of the spigot surface with some sandpaper and maybe follow up with roughing up the inside of the mating piece. Other than this small glitsche, I really like these filters a lot, but I have nothing to compare them to because they are my first filters for my first tanks, a 72 gallon bow front discus tank and a 37 gallon rainbow/tetra tank. The only other thing was that this winter the plastic parts seemed a little brittle and I easily broke a tank adapter piece and one aqua stop which Hagen replaced promptly through their website

Ted Hannaford - The self primer on the Fluval is a little suction cup (like for your hoses) that is doomed to wear out. There is a huge amount of media bypass (block the top tray with plastic wrap and see for yourself), no way to attach a spray bay. They don't come with enough filter media to fill them and by the time you buy the media to finish filling it you could have bought an equivalent Eheim Classic, completely full of better media.

Matt Simmons - I've had this and the previous series of Fluvals, and these are better. Both designs bypass media a lot but I have never found this a major problem. I've used EHEIM 2213 which over here in the UK are more expensive - they are good (better manufactured) and I think they do not allow so much bypass, but I'm not convinced this is such a benefit. I get good filtration with both Fluvals and the circulation is better than the EHEIM. Over here we get a spraybar kit with the Fluvals, which I've never used as I prefer the single output - itīs quieter in our living room and gives a really nice defined current for the Mbuna. I wouldn't use a spray bar in the planted tank which is where the old Fluval is. 00.

Mark Ravenport - This Fluval canister is a complete pain.  I can not ever get the water lines to prime properly.  Always end up with a lot of water spills since it will not start adequately.  I like the Jebo canister much better.

Marci Bell - My Fluval canister has still not cleaned my water.  Its been cloudy for over three weeks.  I do not recommend the product.
